The Extreme Violence of the GOP's White Replacement Theory
Newt Gingrich is the latest jumping all into White Replacement theory
“When you go and look at the radical left, this is their ideal model. It’s to get rid of the rest of us because we believe in George Washington or we believe in the Constitution,” he continued. “You see this behavior over and over again.”
‘Gingrich’s elevation of the racist theory that immigrants were filtering out white Americans reflects a rising discourse in conservative media and politics. But the phrase, which has anti-Semitic connotations, has been shown to have violent consequences.‘

White Replacement has more than ‘anti-Semitic connotations’ but carries a long history for extremes of violence against Jews, POC and minorities in the United States and the West. The neo-Nazis at Charlottesville carried signs saying ‘you will not replace us’ before before attacking counter protestors and killing Heather Heyer, a peaceful protestor, with a car.
That GOP politicians - the latest being Newt Gingrich - continue to escalate White Replacement theory by repeating 'they're not going to replace us' or that they are 'not going to get rid of us' represents incredibly violent incitement while being simultaneously grotesque.
Such language has a powerful historical context which cannot be denied. It’s driven so many pogroms and extremes of anti-Semitic violence over time. It has also been a framework for violent White Supremacy in the United States since the early 1600s which has not ended and is escalating once again with a direct push from the GOP.
The GOP has blithely combined White Replacement with their remarkable misrepresentation of Critical Race Theory to be used as little more than an electoral and fund raising strategy. America is not divided nearly as much as the media breathlessly claims. It is, instead, the GOP doing whatever they can to keep America divided.
In doing so, the GOP has become ‘anti-America patriots.’ That is, they are now trying to frame their hate for America and America’s diversity, their non-stop incitement as being - for - America’s future and in America’s interest. A reality is that they are terrified of our nation’s already well in place demographic changes are are using these naturally events changes to sell themselves.
More recently, White Replacement has driven mass murders in Austin and Christchurch to the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburg. White Supremacist and White Replacement theory language as spoken by Donald Trump was connected to each event.
White Replacement is now being continually repeated not just on insane night time right-wing talk radio or in White Nationalist commentaries but on supposedly mainstream broadcast news stations such as Fox News.
This can no longer be taken lightly or dismissed as it directly represents a growing extremist theme both in the United States and across the global West. It isn't political commentary but outright Hate Speech which should be a violation even of our First Amendment
There must be an organized response and, minimally, lawsuits against Fox and others purveyors of this extreme violence. Gingrich has spent an entire political career working from the slime pits. Fox is, perhaps, the single most reason for extremist political propaganda dissemination and incitement in the United States.
It must stop.
Never Again is not a slogan but hard reality.
